This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel.  On May 25th,  a solemn and meaningful donation ceremony was held in Shanghai Children's Hospital.

(Amb.)Amikam Levy, the Consul General of Israel in Shanghai donated a check of RMB123,888 to the Shanghai Children's Hospital on behalf of the Consulate General of Israel in Shanghai. It is specially used for the treatment of children with cerebral palsy in Shanghai Children's Hospital.
“It is the first time for the Consulate in Shanghai to make a charitable donation in Shanghai,” Consul General Amikam Levy noted. "Israel and China have maintained a long-standing friendly relationship. The Israeli people will never forget that Chinese once provided asylum for more than 30,000 Jewish refugees during World War Two. We do this donation to thank you Shanghai again and the figure stands for two special meanings. One is according to Jewish tradition- the numbers 18 is synonymous to the word "LIFE"! The Second reason is-"8"is equivalent to "Prosperity &Luck" in Chinese tradition." (Amb.) Amikam Levy said. Besides that, Mr. Levy also hoped this charitable act would serve as an example to help more children have access to good treatments and living environments to create a better future.

Professor Yu Guang Jun, the president of Children's Hospital also delivered a speech. He thanked the generosity of the State of Israel and then explained that in 1937 the famous Chinese pediatrician, Fu Wenshou, the founder of Modern Children's Nutrition, Su Zufei, and other predecessors established the Children's Hospital of Shanghai. From the date of establishment, the Children's Hospital of Shanghai has taken on the responsibility of serving children, and it receives help from a lot of communities around the country and support from people of vision throughout the world. The Children’s Hospital of Shanghai’s purpose is “Serving Children is Happiness”, which has been passed on to the present. This year the Children's Hospital will celebrate its 80th birthday and he hopes that more people will join charity events for needy children.

In fact, a lot of medical cooperation between China and Israel happened in the past few years. In 2014, Israel medical clowns went into the Children's Hospital of Shanghai and brought happiness and pleasure to outpatients and hospitalized children. In the same year, the Children's Hospital of Shanghai signed a medical and scientific research cooperation memorandum with the Sourasky Medical Center Dana-Dwek Children’s Hospital at the University of Tel Aviv in Israel.

The donation of the Israeli Consulate General in Shanghai helps to improve the quality of life of more impoverished children with cerebral palsy and opens a new chapter in their lives.
