Dr Eyal Propper's hopes and plans for 2018
January 4, 2018

Dr. Eyal Propper, the Consul General of Israel in Shanghai accepted an interview from the Global Times at the end of 2017. He talked about his diplimatic achievements, hopes and plans for 2018.

The most impressive thing in 2017 was that we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China during Israel Culture Week.

I was very enthusiastic to see so many different Israeli companies and culture bands in Shanghai. We had the best Israeli singer, pianist, violinist and modern dance company attend the celebration. As part of it, we held a very big ceremony at Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower. For us this was a very big event that marked our close relations today between China and Israel.

In 2018, Israel is going to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. This is going to be marked in Shanghai as part of our close relations between Shanghainese and Israeli people. Shanghainese people gave shelter to Jewish people before the establishment of the State of Israel during a very horrific time of the World War II. And we want to mark this in different events to look at the past and to look at the future. We want to bring here more Israeli culture in different fields.

We would like to see more Chinese people go to Israel with the new direct flight from Shanghai to Israel, which started in 2017. In 2018 I am sure that there will be many more flights every week, so that Chinese people can see with their eyes our beautiful country.

I would like to see a better environment and better air quality in Shanghai, and more natural water resources so that we can swim here. I know the Chinese government is making a lot of efforts to make their environment better, because the air quality is now much better than it used to be. I'm sure they will succeed.
